Pixar’s Onward Trailer #4 Arrives with New Character Posters

Onward has a lot of hype surrounding it in the world of animation fandom. It is the first Pixar release since Toy Story 4 arrived this past summer. This puts a fantasy spin on teenage life, with two elf brothers setting off on a magical journey to resurrect their father. Today, we receive the fourth trailer, along with a payoff poster and a number of character posters. You can check out the latest one-sheets below.

Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s Onward introduces two teenage elf brothers (voices of Chris Pratt and Tom Holland) who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there.

The new character posters introduce cast members Mel Rodriguez, who voices Officer Colt Bronco; Lena Waithe, who lends her voice to Officer Specter; and Ali Wong, the voice of Officer Gore. Also featuring the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer, Onward opens in U.S. theaters on March 6, 2020.

Onward was announced as un untitled fantasy comedy in the summer of 2017, during the height of that year’s D23 Expo. Dan Scanlon is directing the upcoming latest entry in the Pixar cannon, working alongside producer Kori Rae. The movie was itself inspired by the death of Dead Scanlon’s own dad when the filmmaker and his brother were much younger. And the characters played by Chris Pratt and Tom Holland is based on that relationship.

Dan Scanlon set out to write the script after having listened to an old audio clip that he’d found from his father. In the movie, the two elf brothers set out to bring their father back, but are only able to manifest the bottom half of the man, with just his legs, waist and feet. It wasn’t until a year ago that Disney and Pixar finally decided on the title Onward.

Onward isn’t the only new Pixar movie coming in 2020. Disney has already started to promote their next endeavor, which is the fantasy adventure comedy Soul. This next animated effort is a little more geared towards adults, with the story of Joe Gardner, a middle school music teacher who has long dreamed of performing jazz music onstage. He finally gets a chance after impressing other jazz musicians during an opening act at the Half Note Club. However, an accident causes Gardner’s soul to be separated from his body and transported to the “You Seminar”, a center in which souls develop and gain passions before being transported to a newborn child. Gardner must work with souls in training, such as 22, a soul with a dim view on life after being trapped for years at the You Seminar, in order to return to Earth before it’s too late.

Soul will be in theaters June 19, just three and a half months after we get to see Onward. The latest trailer arrived to us from Disney and Pixar. You can see the character posters below.
